Installing auto dim mirror

I recently purchased an auto dim rearview mirror for my 1987 Trans Am, complete with all wiring, and am curious how I go about hooking this up? My car was not originally equipped with this type of mirror, so will that cause any difficulty in the installation?

You need to get the year/make/model of the mirror, then go to a dealership and ask for a mirror pinout so you can see where the power/etc. go. The only problems you will have is running power up to the mirror.

If your mirror is manufactured by Gentex and has the 3 wire input (black/red/green) the wires should be connected as follows.
Black-to ground
Red-positive switched power
Green-reverse lamp output
The green wire is used as a canceling feature in reverse; it’s easiest just to hook this up to your reverse light output.
