tach. bounce/mis...ok with EST unplugged

ive had this problem for awhile now. with the est wire plugged in, the tach will jump up only about 100 rpms, with no change in sound. when i drive lighly or on flat ground its ok, but as soon as i step on it or go uphill, the tach drops and twitches and the car boggs and misfires BAD, i unplug the EST wire, and everything is perfect other than lack of proper timing. the distributor was rebuilt 2-4 months ago, has new cap/rotor/wires/plugs/jegs 49,000 volt coil. there is a loud loose change like clicking noise, but only under a good load, i also have a code 34 for the MAF, would this cause it, ive had this code for many months with no problem, its a new MAF. could that noise be my dizzy is shot, like a bad bearing or somthing...

check your est wire, make sure that there are no cracks or insulation missing causing it to short out. From what you are describing that sounds like whats happend.
