Turn signals on mirrors?

I thought it might be cool to do a turn signal on the mirrors of my car, similar to the Corvette below, but following the contour of the mirror. I thought it'd look cool and it'd be different. I know I need a diamond dust drill bit to drill the glass without cracking it, but what do I need do make the wiring water proof and safe and do I need anything to make the LEDs work with the 12v from the car (I don't really know how all that works with LEDs)?

They always look awesome, but I've never figured out: What's the point?
Best I can assume it's to tell people who are beside you that you're moving into their lane.. But then again, that wouldn't be very smart, would it?

Supposedly that is the point is so that people beside you can see you're coming over on them if you can't see them. I think it'll look real good, especially because of the way the 3rd gen mirrors are shaped.

someone on this board had done that with his 3rd gen mirrors several years back. i can't remember who it was, but a search might turn it up. It was a pretty long thread from what I remember

what about a bulb behind the mirror so it glowed that color around the mirror in the space. (i.e. Red led)

Thanks for letting me know about that thread, his look really good. The title wasn't what I expected to be so if I hadn't been going through every thread since there were only 15 or so I'd have never found it. I got his AIM screen name so I'm going to try and talk to him.

I thought about that, but that wouldn't give me the same effect I wanted.
