VATS FIX PICS
Here are some pics of my VATS fIX , done today with the help from my Electrician, JASON ! He was a life saver but unfortuneatley my problem must be else where because it didn't correct my intermittent starting problems. I think the cylinder is just plain worn out. I also had a new regular key cut and it wouldn't go into the cylinder, though it looks like it should, the cylinder must have tumblers in it to allow for the VATS keys bubble resistor. Building the key up to match the bubble somehow would probably work. The car starts most of the time but it is annoying when it doesn't. It seems I have to push the key in all the way for the first attempt to start the car and then it seems to work. I had around 11,600 ohms in mine. even read the key while in the ignition to be sure I wasn't hallucinating.

Look here you are the upper limit. If you can read the key backwards up the connector the bypass is not needed.

Possible VATS problem
Can you tell me if there is a "time phase" from the time you try to start the car and then Waite about 5 min. before trying again with positive results.If my car will not start on the first try, I can Waite about 5 min. and then it kicks right over as if there was no problem at all.I have gust entered a thread on this problem.

I have heard that there was a time delay but I am not sure what it is. I have heard different times if I remember correctly its around 2 minuites. I actually did my VATS fix for no reason. I thought it was giving me problems but it was actually the starter or battery or both. It's not being driven yet so I haven't got it all figured out yet on road conditions. You will be better off fixing the VATS according to most people on thes site. So I did it anyway. If you want to keep the security features of VATS then use a potentiometer instead of resistors. Then you can mark the dial range where the car starts and dial it in to start or if your parked in a bad neighborhood adjust the dial out of starting range and nobody would even know where to look for your little dial or that it was even there and they would still need a key or way around the ignittion to start it.
