Low volts, whistling alternator

my camaro has "whistled" since i have owned it - a bit over a year now. I was told by a mechanic it is the alternator. recently i used tuner pro to have a look at a few things and saw my volts are pretty low. at one point during idle, they dropped down to 7.5 for a split second then back up to high 11s. whilst driving the volts are at high 12s to low 13s which ive read is far too low.

the only thread ive found with similar problems is here:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/elec...ighlight=volts

but there is no solution. can someone please help me out?

Never heard of a whistling alternator. I'd try swapping batteries with another car first, but it will probably do the same thing. Its probably the alternator gone bad.

well i got the multimeter on the battery last night and tested it. looks ok now at idle - 13.9 volts. can tuner pro sometimes give false readings? or maybe the volts arent getting to the ecm?

Is there an idler pulley anywhere on your belt set-up? My buddy had a noisy tensioner/idler pulley on his car and it whistled like a supercharger. Sounded a bit mean actually.
