Module woes.

About every 6 months I have a module problem. Hop in my car one day and it seems like it doesn't want to quite turn over. Go get a new module and viola. Any idea why I've had to change the module 5 times in 2 years or so? Seems like it's getting to hot. I use the grease everytime just seems like it doens't help. Could I wrap the whole distributer with that heat wrap stuff?

It's a 92 Z-28 350. Thanks.

1. Where are you buying the modules from? might try a different source.

2. Check the base plate on the distributor where the module sits. There are one or two screens there that are supposed to let heat out. Make sure they're not plugged.

So it's not supposed to be sitting flat on the metal plate?

yes it is. hes talking about the drain holes i thought they were for moisture...

try an upgraded module? dont use that clear crap that comes with it. use some good stuff like thermal paste that pc guys use for bonding cpu's and heatsinks like arctic silver.

I agree with using a better silicone insulator.there's a lot of heat transfered up thru the distributor's body(rekative to the small module). And definitly go with a better quality module. Some of the garden variety parts store modules lack quality control(best way I can be nice and say it).
Just a side note. When I changed out the cap and rotor on my '83 I noticed the module had a cover that was secured by the same screws that secure the module itself.I had not seen this before.
