Rear hatch pull down wiring

Hey guys my rear hatch pull down motor isn't working. Checked the fuse and it was ok. pulled off cover surrounding hatch. and tested the red and white wire to make sure I had 12V there. That checked out. Then I noticed there was one lone wire that wasn't plugged into anything it is a short white wire. Where does this wire go???? I found a pic and I circled the wire in orange I believe is unplugged on mine. If someone could confirm where this wire plugs into I would greatly appreciate it.
thanks
John

The white wire was probably once connected between the rear cargo compartment light switch and lamp.

The circuit for the hatch controls is like this:

You didn't indicate the model year of your car. As Vader correcty mentions the white wire connecte to the rear hatch light. However what wasn't mentioned until now that it was only used on the later model years that didn't have a manual hatch light switch. If yours has the manual switch, then that wire isn't connected to anything. I know model year 90 -91 used the white wire to control the light. Not sure if 1989 model year did too.

Regardless that wire has nothing to do with why your pull-down unit isn't working. Two other things it could be, the striker-sensing switch or the reversing switch.
