ground out

Ok. someone cut the fuseable link off the wire from the battery to the starter and installed a regular 30amp fuse. The problem is my car grounds out every so often, the fuse blows and it kills all power in the car. I have looked and looked and can't find anything wrong with the power wire. I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me where I might look for the problem. WHY is my car grounding out like this? Sorry for the long post but any help would be greatly appreciated. It's a 91 rs 305

The possibilities are almost limitless. If you knew which fusible link was replaced, and consulted the schematics for the vehicle, you could narrow down the possibilities. There is still quite a bit of wire that is protected only by fuse links, but there are enough different circuits and links that you could get a lot closer by determining which link is is.

What devices don't work when the fuse is pulled?

When this happens the only thing that I have power going to are the headlights. Theres no power to the ignition, the radio, dome light, really nothing in the car, fuel pump doesnt kick on when key is turned. Literally the only thing that has power are the lights.
