VATS Column swap
VATS Column swap
Hello,
I am having a problem with a third gen firebird. The steering column was junk so I got a used one. After the new column was installed, the engine won't start. I tried using the resistor pellet from the old key and the new key. I did notice that there is one extra wire on the new column. It appears to be a ground but I am not sure what it goes to. I have also tried bypassing the VATS by using a resistor of the same value as the key (tried both resistences) placed in the unplugged connector coming from the ignition lock. I have no need for the VATS because it is a beater. Is there a simple way to get around this problem?? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve O.

A good friend from GM told me to take the resistance that is in the key and soder it in between the two white wires that go to the tumbler. It is a specific resistor for that ignition but sence you have changed the colum you would have to use the old resistor from the other colum.
