Gas gauge problems

Ever since I bought my 90 Firebird, the gas gauge hasn't worked. Its stuck on E. The needle never moves either.
I go to test the wires out to see if thats the problem (I really hope it is) but I don't know what I should be testing for. Volts? OHMs?

Anyone else have this problem? Any tips on how to fix it?

Thank You

i had this problem start on my 89 iroc after i changed the fuel pump, if somebody replaced the fuel pump on your car, they may have bent the float arm, also, check to make sure the wiring harness up in front of the tank is not damaged and is connected.

hope this might help you figure out the problem

I pretty sure that the first owner never replaced the fuel pump.
