rear hatch electrical thingy

I wanted to know did my 92 RS come with this or is it an optional item, of course it not having the motor in it, it doesn't have electrical power to the rest of the car so I don't know but I know my back hatch wouldn't latch so I took the interior panels off and lifted the lock mechanism and now it latches with a little bit of slamming. I've seen it on my buddies 91 RS and it looked pimp.

if you're talking about prevention from shorting it out then you'll be fine. it's ran through a relay.

but since it wouldn't close with the latch assembly in the stock location and since I lifted it up I'm afraid that when power gets sent to it, the motor may try to pull down an already closed hatch and strip some gears or something.

It was in '86, I bought a loaded '85 Z new and it had an electric release switch but a motor did not pull it down and seal.
