89 IROC; I.D. these wires please...
these are pictures of part of the engine harness on my buddy's 89 Iroc. It looks like there was a repair done once and currently one of the RED wires is melted.
What your looking at is a RED feed to a fuse holder which feeds the underhood light. The firewall side of the fuse has a second RED wire spliced in to it. From there both RED wires lead off to GREY connectors which lead down the harness behind the engine.
My questions are where are they RED wires coming from?
Why are they spliced just before the fuse holder?
What size fuse(amp rating) should be in this holder?
And does this look like someone butchered up this piece of harness to fix a problem?
I did fish them out of the wire loom and before these pics they looked factory and all.
The wires in question are circled in BLUE.
Thanks..

Question 1 = fusible links from starter solenoid.
Question 2 = GM's way of eliminating excessive wiring by splicing several wires together off one connection instead of having multiple connections.
Question 3 = 3 AMP fuse found at all auto parts stores.
Question 4 = NO!!!! it is correct.
In case you are wondering how I know, I have the service manual schematics and I also have a 89 Iroc-Z

Okay , thanks Trickster, it just looked wierd being spliced like that, even for GM. And that they used such a large gauge wire to feed just the underhood lamp.
There is some insulation stripped/melted off one of the RED wires. And I'm tracing down a driveability problem and didn't know if this was also used for or from the ECM.
The under hood lamp is loose as a goose and I can see where it has been rubbing paint down to bare metal on the firewall/cowl area.
