wierd no start problem

my car likes to not start when hot, battery is brand new and putting out correct voltage, and the alternator is fine.

when the car is cold it fires up first time every time, after it has been warmed up and shut down the car will not start. has full voltage but i don't get a click from the starter solonoid or anything, just turn the key and nothing. i checked the wire running to the starter and its fine. if i jump start the car when hot it will fire up first go

the car is a 1989 iroc 305 tpi 5spd ac and full power everything. its very consistant, when cold it cranks over when hot it won't, if i let the motor cool down for an hour or two it will start fine, or if i jump it.

any ideas guys? i was thinking a heat soaked starter, but i don't know

its fuel injected, don't need to worry about that.

i'm probably gonna rebuild the solonoid and see if that helps

since i'm not getting any engagement from the solonoid, it can't be not enough air, if the motor was cranking over i would agree but its not.

its a faulty solonoid

Befor you start spending too much time and money on things, it sounds like you might have a bad battery. Have it tested, then troubleshoot from there.

I've changed my starter, alternator, and had the battery checked, and I am still having some issue with my car (89 GTA) not starting occassionally. The start enable relay is also only about 2 years old. Any ideas anyone????????????

I live in the desert

Having a heat-soaked starter is a everyday occurance.
However, After replacing numerous starters thinking that
was the problem, It actually wasnt.

The location of our 3rd Gen starters are tucked up and
from airflow and just sit up there and cook like a turkey..

I expiermented with a JC whitney "Heat wrap" starter
shield and I havent had a problem starting my car after
a long cruise.. even in 110 degree weather

Alot of people just remotely mount there solenoids
inside the engine compartment away from any kind
of heat.

Good luck
