I have an 87 Camaro RS, originally equipped with a carb. I want to put TPI on it. Is it possible for me to just get the harness from another camaro with TPI and plug it in under the hood? Or would I have to change the under dash harness as well? I was hoping I could just unplug the carb harness under the hood and plug the TPI harness in right there. If I can't do this, could you guys give me suggestions on getting this done as quickly as possible? Thanks a lot guys.

I have an 87 TPI harness (used) in excellent condition. It's complete, no broken wires or connectors. I haven't considered price yet. If you get to the point where you're interested, let me know.

Your chassis harness should be the same. I am pretty sure you would be able to just wire it up using the tpi harness and drive off. There will be other issues such as fuel, since your carb car only runs on about 5 psi, where as the TPI will need closer to 45.
ponykiller,
would the fuelpump harness be connected to the part under the hood or fed through the car from under the dash.

Also, would I just be able to plug the ecm into my existing harness? Let me know how much for the tpi harness w/ shipping. I'm in Hattiesburg, MS 39401.

the ecm plugs into the tpi harness. i think htey use different ecm's between carb and tpi. your current under dash harness doesn't have the injector fuses. i don't think it will be simple plug and play but i could very well be wrong since i haven't looked at many carb wire harnesses.

This connector has the injector power and fan relay/alternator ignition power. The diagram does not show it, but maybe your harness has it. It's located near C207, which is near the ECM. There may be other differences.
So, if I get the complete harness for a TPI setup, would I need to change anything inside the car? Or would everything plug up as it was with the carb harness? would the firewall plug be the same? What all would I need to change?
s10, pm me price for harness. Do you have the complete setup? I need everything.

Something isn't correct here. All '87 RSs (sold only in California) came with the MPFI V6. Are you sure it's an RS?? What is the eighth and tenth digit of your VIN?
Eighth = Engine
Tenth = Model Year
Either you bought the car without the original engine or it's not an '87....

I bought the car 2 months ago without the engine. I looked up the vin it said originally equipped with 305 carb. I know rs was only v6 mpfi in 87. When I looked the vin up, it didn't say what model it was but it did say it had 305 with carb, and that's beside the point. I am not worried about that. I am only worried about getting rid of all the carb stuff and installing tpi. I already short-blocked my motor. I got a 350 bored .030 over with a 260 cam. I got a set of 193 centerbolt heads that need to be rebuilt. I'm trying to get info on how easy would the harness change over.
Oh the reason i said rs is because that's what is all over the car, is rs badges
I said rs because the car has rs badges all over it.
....I looked up the vin it said originally equipped with 305 carb.
Then it's not an RS. The LG4 305 was used in both the Sport Coupe and Z28 (with and without the IROC-Z option). The VIN will not help discern which submodel it is. The determination can be made by other RPO codes on the SPID. Regardless, all LG4s use the same harness so this is irrelevant here. It's relevant only if you want to know exactly which sub-model you own.
....it did say it had 305 with carb, and that's beside the point. I am not worried about that.
You should be. Different engines used different harnesses and if you're going with a TPI which was never in this car, it's very important to know which engine harness is there now. If you assume it's an LG4 harness that's never been replaced and you're correct, you're good to proceed to the next step. But because you bought the car without an engine, who knows for sure what engine was in it and if the harness has been replaced or hacked in some way. Using this harness may pose more problems than it's worth.
Your best move would be to buy the Helms manual for the 1987 Camaro to compare what you have now to the manual schematics. If it's a 305 LG4 harness, then numerous modifications need to be made to it to work with a TPI. It might be simpler to replace it with a TPI harness with minor modifications. If it's some other harness or one that's been modified, my recommendation would be to replace it with a TPI harness..... unless you like tracing wires.
As for compability to the dash harness, compare both the LG4 and TPI engine schematics and how each wire connects to the dash harness. Your course of attack, whether to mod the LG4 harness or replace it with the TPI would be determined by your findings and your comfort level to make the necessary changes. One will be simpler to do, it just boils down to which is easier for you.

I'm already planning on getting the tpi harness. If you look further up in this post, you would have seen this. I'm trying to find the complete setup. intake, runners, plenum, fuel rail, fuel pump, harness, ecm, high pressure fuel lines. I already had planned on all this. I was tryin to see if the tpi harness would plug into the c100 bulkhead.

If you cannot find the TPI harness, you'll have to make changes to whatever you have now. You'll need the manual as I describe to see what changes you'll have to make to either harness. It shows specifics on C100 and all other connectors. Hint: There are some changes you'll need to make to some other underdash connectors. Good luck.
And a suggestion: Now that we all know you don't have an RS, change your profile with the correct info.
