autometer 5" tach, worked b4, added ign box, not working.
Can someone PLEASE help me out. I have got every last thing in my car working and going well exept my tach. It worked when the dizzy was left stock HEI from Mallory, but then I added a mallory 6-AL. The car runs much better due to the extra spark, and it has an adj. rev limiter. The instructions say attach tach to yellow wire, but I do and the damn thing doesn't move. It does get 12V due to it zeroing itself, so I know it is grounded and it has 12V. The signal is screwed. I ran a new test wire straight from the coil's neg terminal to tach- nothing, then from the yellow wire to tach. nothing. It did jump WAY up for like .1 seconds, way above what the engine was running. No idea why.
PLEASE help if you can. I am lost.

If you connected the tach to the negative side of the coil with the 6AL hooked up you may have toasted your tach. I believe most after market ignition boxes put way over 12volts to the coil. Mike

but i can still get it to move randomly if i slide the wire past the signal wire. It is the wierdest thing. If I connect it, nothing happens. But if I slide the wires past eachother real quick, the tach moves a bit and then stops. I am totally lost.
Maybe I can just call Mallory and see what they say.

i can't get through to mallory, I tested the tach on my moms carolla. The tach is 100% fine. Def not fried.
The dizzy has 2 output tabs. The + side and the - side of the coil. I have tried both.
The - side does absolutly nothing. The + side makes it jump up and and then bounce all around. Not sure why.
I have also tried to get through to summit tech as well as mallory tech. Neither ever pick up and I was on hold for more than 30 minutes, and my cell phone started to die.
PLEASE HELP......!!!!!!!!!
This damn ignition box is cool cuz it has a rev limiter and it makes the car run smoother, but damn, this frustreation is not worth it.

Thats what I said, and the guy on the MSD Tech Line convinced me otherwise. I will call him again today. The damn mallory tech line just hands down doesn't work. Maybe I will call Autometer tech.
Why is this so complicated. I was under the impresion that a LOT of guys ran boxes and Autometer tachs.....guess not
