'88 2.8 Firebird Timing & EST
I just searched thru 100's of posts trying to find out more on the EST connector. Here's the issue. I replaced the pickup coil & ign module *no-start hot condition) put the dist back in and timed the engine - 10 deg. Car ran like it had no power & engine running hotter than normal. I read up on timing on Alldata. It says EST connector must be disconnected. Problem is I can't find the connector. There is a single wire connector - white wire connected to a blk wire w/wht tracer. When I discon this wire tach doesn't work. When I hook wire back up timing remains at 10deg. I don't think I have the right connector, but I can't find a picture of it anywhere. The connector I mentioned above is by rear of rt side valve cover (near coil). I don't see anything by the blower fan or near HVAC.
This is driving me nuts. There is another single wire connector in the same area (red wire) disconnected this & it had no effect.

The timing set connector on my 88 which has a V8 (probably the same) is over by the fender, just in front of the heater blower. Brown wire with a white stripe pulled out of the big wiring harness. And when setting timing, keep the engine idling as slow as possible, there is some advance built in the ignition module that will come in above idle even with the wire unhooked.

Tom,
Thanks for the reply. I pulled most of the wire loom off the main harness by the blower motor & found the EST wire buried in the center of the harness (also found a blue ground wire that was never hooked up). I disconnected EST wire, set base timing & all is well again after hooking up wire.
Thanks again,
Corky
