Fuel pump relay problem.
All right. Now I am getting pissed. I have been working on my 89 5.0 TBI Camaro for over a year now. I am not receiving any fuel at the TBI. I have checked and verified that I am getting signals at the injectors. I have dropped the tank and fixed the rubber hose from the pump to the fuel line. It was severely corroded. I have replaced the oil pressure sensor switch and the fuel filter and I am still getting no fuel. The car does not fire. I pour gas into the throttle body and it runs until the gas is gone. I belive that the problem is now the fuel pump relay has been fried. There is a lot of black grease looking stuff on the relay and the connector. I can find a relay very easily and cheap. I am sure that you all know that though. My question is where would I find the connector for the relay? I have searched for this and cannot find anything on it. Or is there a way to cleann all of that crap off of the connector? i have read other posts where people have replaced the relay with an aftermarket relay. I am just trying to get the car to run so I am not sure if the aftermarket relay is the way that I need to go. Sorry that this is so long but I want to make sure that I covered everything. Thank you all for your time and help in advance.
You can use a solvent to clean the dirty grease from teh relay connector. Once it is cleaned and thoroughly dried, apply a fresh coating of clear silicone dielectric grease to the connections to prevent moisture and corrosion.
An aftermarket relay should work just fine.

While your at it, check the wires on the connector. Over time the insulation slides down exposing bare copper wire which may ground out and cause some problems.

Better yet, If none of the above helps you out.
I just spent the past week trying to find a electrical
problem in my fuel pump relay/circuit that did'nt even
exist.. It was the fuel pump the whole time
My car also started and ran on carb spray for a few
moments before it ran out, I reccomend you check
the pump, they go out when they feel like it.

You are right John. The insulation has slid down and is exposing the wires. That is another reason that I am thinking about replacing the connector as well.
Vader, what aftermarket relay would work? Or where would you recommend that I look for one?

I have a 92 rs 305 tbi that I am transplantinng to 385ci. Our fuel pump relay was the second one on the drivers side. We just had to ground it I believe to get the fuel pump to activate. On to the rest of the electrical gremlins.

Ok. Here we go again. I went to my nearest dealership and bought a new fuel pump relayand actually got a new connector for it too. If anybody needs the part number for it let me know. I replaced both and my car is still not starting. The only thing that I an think of is that all of this work I have been doing and cycling the pump is that I burnt out the relay and the pump. If I am wrong then please elt me know your opinion. I do not hear the pump priming either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Jack the rear, run 12v to the pump directly at the plug (there is a plug connection just in front of the tank) and see if the pump runs.
pump runs - then go back to the OPSU - disconnect the connector from OPSU and directly connect the pins with a small piece of wire to see if bypassing it makes pump run - if so, then it's the OPSU again, if not, then it's a bad wire between OPSU and pump.
pump doesn't run - with 12v directly to the connector at tank, then it's the pump.

I found the best sets of relay connectors I found in the yard. luckily the yard i go to has 20 3rd gens. Out of those 20 only two had ussable, and not on the same car lol.
Change the connector to a different style/. the whole relay comes apart. since ya got a new one....isn't there a fusible link for the fp?

look at the top ofthe relay for a schematic symbol of the relay itself, or go to the yard and find one that has the schematic on top. its your standard 12v duall pole 3 terminal one side normally connected, other side normally open, . just gotta make it fit.

Ok. Finally an update. I connected 12V to the connector just in front of the fuel tank. I did not know which pin but it doesn't really matter. I connected the wire to all three connections. The pump did not run. Upon connecting the wire to the connections one of them sparked. I assume that this is the ground. I am now going to buy a fuel pump, strainer, filter and a new gasket just to be safe. I dropped the tank before and only fixed a small piece of rubber tubing between the fuel pump and the metal fuel line. I now realize that I should have replaced the fuel pump. Oh well. If anybody has any other recomendations of other things that I should replace while I am in there please let me know. Thanks.
