well i put a new column in over the weekend and everything hooked up well except for this orange wire/connector. Now it dosnt crank, but i have power. The old column did not use the passkey system, is that something that goes with the passkey that the new column has. my quess is the passkey or something for cruise which the old column also didn't have. Any help is appriceated

 

well turns out to be for cruise. is there any other components needed for a passkey system. the security light comes on when the car should be cranking.

Sounds like either the column had been replaced before or the VATS had been bypassed. (If you have a SECURITY light on your dash you have VATS/Passkey). If you still have the old column, look for the orange sheath with two white wires in it, the bypass resistors were probably spliced on the column side of the connector, which you may have disconnected when you took the old column out.

 

yea the column had been replaced before i bought it and the car has a security light. the old column was such a peice, the key lock didn't lock so u didnt need a key and the Passkey was bypassed. the new column has the orange sheath with the connector. i suspect that the new key might be a different 1-15# then the passkey module
