Switch question.

I'm not sure if this i the best forum for my question, but I hope it will do. I have an '89 IROC convertible. Is that lil switch in the center console supposed to still pop my trunk, or does that only work with a hatch?

I believe that is the only purpose for the middle button in between the power window switches. The hatch motor is a common problem on man y 3rd Gen cars. When you slide the button towards the rear of the car does it make a clicking noise? This is what mine did when it needed to be replaced. These cars have a power hatch pulldown which the motor goes out in a lot.

It does absolutly nothing. Not a sound. I was wondering if somewhere in the conversion process to convertible, if it was (intentionally) rendered non-functional. Should it now "pull down" my trunk instead?

I have a pal with a 4th gen convertiable and his trunk has the remote button one would think that the function would cross from hatch to trunk.Have ya opened the panel in the trunk around the latch mechanism?See if the wires and releace mechanism are still there?Ya did say it was a "conversion" right? They may have gone the easy route and just replaced that section with a standard catch panel.Simple enuff to change over to remote release.Just hit a bone yard and pick up the solinoid that attachs to the latch release ,push in the tab on yer release(if ya pull the solinoid at the yard ya will see what tab) attach the solinoid and run the wires and relay to a switch and yer in bussiness.I imagine that one could even hook up the pull down function for the trunk as well.

Well, all 3rd gen 'verts are converstions. Even the "factory" cars (which mine is) were done by ASC and sent back to GM. I'm not sure if this follows over to 4th gen or not.

My trunk switch did the same thing. I removed the switch and took it apart and found the grease on the contacts had dried up and burnt. I simple cleaned it up and applied new grease and put it back together. It has worked fine ever since.

I'll try that, then. Thanks.
