5-speed conversion, cable speedo and VSS transmission?

I recently converted my 700R-4 '88 Camaro to a 5-speed. I used the T-5 out of an '89 Firebird. My original speedometer was cable-driven, and used a cable going into the side of the automatic transmission. However, the new 5-speed has a sensor plugin on the tailshaft. How do I get my speedometer to work?

IIRC, all you need do is remove what's in the trans and replace with a T-5 sleeve and gear.

Thanks for the quick reply! Are both the parts still available from a GM dealer?

I believe so (but don't bet the farm).

Are these pieces really in demand? If the dealership can't get them, will it be realistic to think that a place like Hawks might have them (they weren't listed on the website). I'm surprised that more people that have swapped transmissions haven't run into this problem.

I purchased a new sleeve and gear from jmd, whom I haven't seen floating about the site for a while. You might try a search on his name if nothing else.

I guess JMD is defunct; sent him an email and a PM, got nothing in return.
