Car won't start after build up?? Ignition system work till cranking. Please Help!!
Hi,
well I got car back together and I thought I had a timing problem
but the distributor was just out of alignment. (Fix)
now however I have a bigger problem.
want I have:
Mallory unilite with electronic ignition
MSD coil
accel wires
Mallory ballist resistor
It all worked before the tear down.
It the beginning I left the key in the “on” position,
While I was checking something
And burn my ballist resistor out.
I replaced it and check the voltage to the coil and module
I tested the module and the coil responded too.
Everything worked.
When I try to start it however I get one spark then nothing
Engine cranks over but the is no firing of the coil because
The ignition module is not grounding it out except for that first time.
While I was testing everything
(I had someone turning the car over for me so as not to leave is in the “on” position for to long)
The ballist resistor heated up again and burnt out.
Power on one side(battery power and module input) but not the other (input to coil)
So it spirits to just start the car I wired it without one but,
I still only got one spark in the beginning then nothing.
I have my system wired exactly like Mallory say to
http://go.mrgasket.com/pdf/Unilite_Wiring.pdf (page 2)
and the key switch has it’s own wire directly to the battery.
And battery is fully charged and like I said it all worked perfect before.
SO……..
What is the deal with the burnt out resistors
Am I wired wrong?
Why is it only firing once
Bad module? It tested fine.
I replaced the coil (Accel to MSD)
And when It gets the signal it fires.
I’m going to call Mallory tomorrow and see what they say.
But all probably get a better answer here.
Any help is always appreciated

update
Well turns out it was my ignition switch
went and pick one up at Maz-Max for $47.
also the Mallory tech said MSD should never
be used with Mallory said they have had many
problem with the pairing.
I think it was half statistics and half company competitiveness.
The car is now trying so hard to start.
I think the distributor is just a little too advance.
