My Way of Bypassing VATS
Ok, after a long time of my car being out of commission, my friend 1990gta and i bypassed the VATS on my 91 camaro. it was easier to do than i've ever read. we bought a Key cylinder from autozone that didn't come with a Resister key, and installed it into the dash. we then took the orange wire (with 2 white wires inside of it) and cut it off about a foot away from the connection. After doing so, we soldered My old key with the Resister to both ends of the wires, one wire touching each side of the resister. it fired up like it never had a problem to begin with! just letting you know this is how i bypassed it, and many people have problem with VATS. heres a pic. ENJOY!

The 'chip' comes out of the key... just a thought if you wanted to make it look a little less "rigged up".
Why not just figure out the resistance of the key and put in one of those inline resistor deals in it?

it's obvious the problem was in your vats tumbler like many others. why since you replaced the tumbler with a non vats tumbler didn't you just put a new vats tumbler in LOL ..... I guess each to there own congrats on the job though I'm sure a thief with a hammer will thank you for not fixing the problem right. I'm sure the 30-50 extra for a vats tumbler would have been a waste of money anyways, just use it on your premium when it gets stolen.
So nice to sleep at night knowing my 1982 trans am has vats in it.

Where I'm at, people don't want real cars, people want hondas and toyotas. also, i did buy a vats tumbler, i just didn't feel like going to home depot and getting a resistor. plus, it will be tucked under the dash, and i can just unclip it if i go anywhere, so to fukk your idea of people stealing my car, they can't get it to start if the connector isn't plugged in can they...
yeah, and i don't think anyone will want to steal a 1982 trans am..

I know because my car was broken into twice and that's exactly what happened. I've disabled the VATS and installed a real security system that pages me before they break into the car. Now I can sleep at night. But you keep your VATS, but when you get stuck miles away from home because your VATS won't recognize your key and you have to have your car towed home think about getting a better system.
