wanna change my RPM counter from my Z28

Hi guys,

my genuine Z28 1991 5.7 rpm counter doesnt works well (when the engine is 2200 rpm (from Xray) the rpm counter says 3100/3200 !!

my question is : can i buy a rpm gauges/cluster from a Z28 530 or RS from 90/92 years ? or the rpm counter is different in functionning ?

thanks for the help

Yes. The gauge in question is called a tachometer or tach.

Probably the difference between a 305 (4500 red line) and your 350 (5000 red line). Either would work, but I'd hold out for the 5000.

Just noticed that your home is in France. I lived in Annecy for nearly a year a long time ago. I was driving a VW then--thank goodness times have changed!

I have the same exact car Black G92 with drum brakes. I ordered the car new with gray leather and AC as only options. Best car in the world.

Are you sure that the tach is bad? If so you will need one from a v8 donor car.

Drive the car and record the MPH vs RPMS. The chart below is based on a G92 5 speed close ratio and will give you the speed based on 2000 rpm with a 25 inch tall tire. I can't do metric conversions.

Gear 1 2 3 4 5
RPM 2000 2000 2000 2000 2000
Trans Ratio 2.75 1.94 1.34 1 0.73
RearGear 3.42 3.42 3.42 3.42 3.42
Tire Height 25 25 25 25 25
Speed MPH 16 22 32 43 60

To James : i'm living near the French F1 circuit if you know it, maybe 300 kms west Annecy :-)

you said : thank goodness times have changed! why ? for car or for the country or for both ? since i'm young my dream is to live in California or Arizona. Sure San Diego is a great place to live ;-)

to SDIF : Wow very rare the guys like our who have this Z28 without rear discs isn't it ? ;-) Thanks for your info i'll be not able to make this test before 1/2 month because my car is blocked in my garage !! i have lot of works in front of my garage :-(((

I was speaking about the VW--the country was beautiful (I taught English in a small CES). Before I left for France, I sold my first brand-new car, a 72 Camaro, and bought a VW in Luxembourg. Ouch!
