Firebird Digital Dash problem

Firebird Digital Dash problem
Hello
Does anyone know what it means if the speedo part of the dash has started "cylcling" through the following, changing about once a second
O Mph, 100 and then the check status where the entire LCD is lit...
then it repeats through the 3 continuously.
It started doing this after the battery had been disconnected for a while and I reconnected it (correctly). I did install the dash myself but this was about 4 or 5 years ago and it's never had any problems so I'm guessing the problem is with the unit somehow rather than my wiring.
