91 Camaro. Lost ignition key.
I Hope this is the right area to post this.
My buddy owns said 91 Camaro. It sits in front of my house now for damn near close to a year. We were going to move it to start working on it, and only to find out my buddy lost all the ignition keys to the car. He still has the door/trunk keys, but no ignition key. We went to the dealer to have them cut one, and since its a 91, they said they didnt have the information on the car's key from the vin number stored in their computer.
My question(s) is this:
Is there a way to find out what the key was? would another dealer be able to get that information for us?
is there a way to test the OHM of the resistor in the ignition without the origional key? i need to know how / what resistor level the key is, in order to get them to cut a key for it. how can i find this out?
thanks.

nope there is not. all u need to do is to take out your switch & put a normal switch in & u will just stick a five cent resistor in the place of the connector at the base of the steering colum. there we only a few different resistors used on our cars, if im not mistaking i believe resistor was in the teens, u will have to experiment.
yes gm can give you the correct key, but not a correct vats key. this will at least get you to be able to turn the ignition to test the resistors. $4 from gm. after that point there are a series of numbers. my resistor was 4.
once they narrow down the resistor you can get this exact key blank with the correct vats resistor on it from gm by supplying your vin and the code. i didn't have the proper tools so i had to pay someone. ran me $100 to check the resistors out and another $4 for the correct key with resistor.
good luck.
i will warn you on this. once you have had your car set to the correct resistor do not mistakenly use your blank to start the car. bad news.
