Strange Probelm with Startup

Last night I took my car out and on the way home, I stopped to get some gas. After I finished pumping, I went to start the car up and the starter wouldn't engage at all. I could hear the fuel pump working and everything else in the car worked too. The starter just wouldn't work. At this point I'm thinking the starter solenoid or the starter itself is bad. Here's the weird part: One of the guys who worked at the gas station saw I was having trouble and told me I wad to move the car away from the pump. So I put it in neutral and had my friend who was with me push it into an empy parking space behind me. So then I went to start it up again and it fired right up, no hesitation with the starter or anyting. After I got it home, I turned it off and attempted to start it again and it fired right up again without any trouble. So today I tried starting it a couple times and didn't have any trouble with it again. Does anyone know what could be causing it to not start up once and then not have any more trouble? Thanks in advance.

It's a forewarning that something is developing in the wiring/ solenoid/ or the brushes may be wearing out. Next time it happens you could try to give the starter a knock with the handle of something. Worked everytime for me once upon a time.
