Brake pedal turns on side markers/dash

I'm returning an 86 IROC-Z from the dead. Just noticed when I press the brake pedal, the dash lights and side markers come on. I narrowed it down to the RH switch at the brake pedal. When that switch is not made by the brake pedal (pedal depressed) the dash lights and all side markers come on. Disconnecting the side connector with two Blue wires and one Orange wire stops it from happening. I'm guessing there is a short somewhere in these wires allowing power to be sent to the dash/side markers when it's not supposed to be.

Any one have any ideas where to look/start? I'm having a bit of trouble finding the switch on my wiring schematic. Any help is appreciated!

Don't know if this is your problem, but mine did something similar and it turn out to be the brake light bulb. There are 2 filaments in it 1 for brakes and 1 for lights (comes on with headlights) anyway the 2 filaments were shorted together. I figured it out by accident when I needed to replace the bulb and the problem disappeared at the same time.

OK, that gives me a starting point at least. Guess I'll check each bulb one at a time this weekend.

If you have any other ideas, keep them coming!

Uhh, yeah, that was too easy. I removed the bulb for the right rear brake light, depressed the pedal and no more dash lights/side markers. Replaced that bulb and the problem was fixed. Nice!

Guess I'd bettter get back to the KISS principle! (Keep It Simple...Stupid!)

Thanks guys!!

Glad you found it!

Another reason is usually a bad ground somewhere, in which case the currents have to find their way to the ground through other places in the car, like lights or dash.
