Ignition coil wires- which do what?

I'm wiring up a new ignition and I'm trying to double check what each wire does to prevent any problems. Can someone explain what each wire is on the coil in this diagram from my Chilton manual?

If my feeble mind serves me right.

Pink from ign switch = +12v
Pink & White = pickup coil trigger wires
Black = Ground

Looks strange to me, on my 88 TPI 305 it goes...(factory manual)
white is trigger from the EST(fires coil)
white is also tacho feed
pink is 12vdc from ignition swtich (run), powers coil and EST

By your diagram this means that the pink wire from the EST should go where the white (inst-tacho) is shown and the white (inst-tacho) goes where it shows the pink wire ie; common with the white trigger wire.

I checked both my factory manual, a Haynes and the Chilton (28282)..the Chilton does not agree with the other two, looks wrong. Actually the AB input to the EST is for A=ignition power 12vdc, B is trigger for coil and switches to earth/Gnd to fire coil. The Chilton has AB inputs shorted, can't be right?

Be careful.
