Ignition cylinders from parts store & getting the correct VATS code
I searched the site for a long time but didn't find the answer to this question, I need a new cylinder on my 92 Camaro, if I go to a parts store and order a cylinder can they order one that comes with keys of the correct resistance? I checked my old keys with an OHM meter and compared them to the chart in the Tech. section and determined what # I have. Or should I just go to GM and pay out the wazoo? I ask at one local store today and they could order the part but didn't have a clue about the VATS.

The new ign. cylinder will come with a dummy key (no VATS chip). You have to buy a new key with the same VATS # as your current one and have it cut to match the new key in your new ignition cylinder.

I just got it all put back together last night with a new GM cylinder, I haven't had time to get to a GM dealer and have keys made yet so I just took the old cylinder with the old key in it and plugged it into the harness and taped it under the dash, works like a charm as a cheap VATS bypass
. How much should GM dealers get for keys anyway? I don't want to get ripped.
