Dual Battery Setup?

Hi,

I have an '89 Camaro, everything bone stock. I plan on using the aux. battery MOSTLY for engine-off, household electronics (eg: PS2 w/ LCD Monitor, charge a phone or laptop) use by way of a 400W (two sockets only, but that's all I need) power inverter directly connected to the aux. battery.

This is what I would like to do:

1) Install an auxiliary battery in the trunk, opposite the "hump" of the spare tire side.
2) Hardwire the 400W Power Inverter to the AUX battery.
3) Have the STOCK alternator charge BOTH batteries (starter and aux.) when the ENGINE IS RUNNING.
4) When the engine is OFF, and key turned to ACCESSORIES, I would like the AUX battery to become independent of the starter battery, and car electrical system.

Basically, I want the AUX battery to get NO DRAW from any other elecronic device in the car OTHER than the Power Inverter and whatever is connected to that, BUT still get charged when I run the engine...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Before I spend money on one, it will allow me to charge both batteries? I don't need to step-up my alternator? And will I only draw power from the aux battery with the ignition off?

Thanks

One battery serves the car normally, the other is only used for "extra" stuff, like you wanted to do, but both are charged when the engine runs. Meaning, your laptop, PSP, drill...whatever, could totaly kill the second battery, yet never use a single bit of power from the main battery, making sure your car will always start.

These are mainly used in RVs and such, so that no matter what, the RV will always start, regardless. Basically, a one-way electric switch. Power goes into the second battery, but cannot be used out of the first battery.
