91/92 TA taillight swap, plz help if you can
i saw a guy on cardomain swap out his plain 89 firebird tail lights and put in 91/92 TA tail lights, so i bought a pair of the same tail lights and when i was going to install them i couldn't get them to fit. on the back of the firebird tail lights is 2 holes for park lights, 2 slightly larger holes for brake lights, 1 hole for turn signal and 1 hole for reverse light, but on the TA lights there are no holes for the park lights which isnt a big deal but the problem i was running into was that the casing to the brake light bulbs was too long, so when i put the bulb into the hole on the TA tail lights it fit fine but when i tried to mount the taillights back in place this "casing" was too long and bumped against the body and the light didnt go all the way in and icouldnt figure out how to make it fit so i just put the stock lights back in and now the TA lights, which were way too expensive just sit here, Has this happened to anyone or does anyone know anything about how to fix it, PLZ HELP those tail lights put a hole in my pocket and id hate to sell them because theyre so hard to find.

Ah! The infamous firebird to t/a taillight swap. No, they won't fit. It's the one part that I know of that's NOT interchangeable.
From firebird to camaro to t/a, they are different. I tried that same swap back around ten years ago and had the same surprise that you did. I tried to take the both apart and mount the checkerboard side of the t/a's onto the mounting part of the firebird. That didn't work either since they became superhuge and still would not fit. I'm still searching the posts myself to find out what the fix is if there is one short of taping off the firebird taillights in the pattern of a checkerboard and spraypainting it.

they will fit FINE.
wiring them is another story, you will have to modify the wiring.
i beleive on the 91-92 tails, the far left, and far right are used for the blinker lights, and are amber. the rest are brake/tails

Wiring them is another story indeed. However, the holes and tips do not line up. It maybe different when using the 91-92 taillights to a T/A, but when adding the T/A taillights to a Firebird, they will not fit. They are just different. The exception being I guess after you rewire them is making new holes.

you just have to figure out what wires are for parking/running/brake lights. Install the lights in the proper spot on the taillight. As for the turn signals, you may need to extend the wiring, but you will also need to go to a parts house and get a pair of new bulb recepticles. The ones you need should take the same bulb as your turn signals you have now, but they need to have the wiring come out at a 90* angle as opposed to coming straight out the back, like you have now.
These 90* connectors are what will give you the clearance needed for these lights to bolt in.

They fit fine, they've been swapped to many years of Firebirds and Trans Ams. Just swap the long bulb sockets to the short bulb sockets. The mounting holes line up perfectly, and if they don't, then that means someone has screwed with your car.
