Digital overhead console

While it may be infringing on the 90's and up vehicles I was wondering if anyone has changed out the seemingly useless thumb wheeled info centers for a more updated use with an integraded digital info center with compass and temp? While I realize that there is not a lot of room behind the console or inside of it, there has got to be something that could work in its place. Any suggestions or previous examples would be stellar.
Just to let you all know I do my best thinking when I'm drinking.

Re: Digital overhead console

Gave up trying to come up with something really useful for the space and put in a piece of aluminum cut with the Chevy logo. The bottom edges of the logo are cyt out so that light from the blue LEDs that I'm going to mount behind with show through. I'll post pics when my camera is fixed.

A g-tech could be cool there, or one of moates's O-meters for a WB o2 would be cool, or a DC/AC converter panel with a usb exstention for the ostrich (you have one right) and maybe a serial extension for data logging, Maybe a few switches for random things, like neons or leds, Nitrous Bottle heater, maybe a 16F74 picchip programed with a speech chip to make cool comments when you get in the car, or turn something on (pretty extreme, but awesome).
