a/c wiring
a/c wiring
hi
I need some help with the wiring for the a/c on my 84 Z. I have the standard a/c plug that plugs into the compressor, however there is a short wire coming off of that plug which has another type plug attached to it. The temp. sending unit that screws into the thermo housing has the same style plug,( you need to squeeze it and push it on) however the there is no sensor anywhere around the compressor for this pigtail to attach to, plus the wire is to short. When I purchased this car it had no engine and the a/c had been removed so I have had to put all new stuff in the car. All the wiring is there just hook it up RIGHT, HA HA. Any one with an 84 Z that can tell me where this short pig-tail wire off of the a/c plug goes to???????

Re: a/c wiring
Thee is usually a supression diode placed across the compressor clutch coil. If the diode is not in the compressor connector itself (as some are), there may have been an external diode - I'm not sure what else would be connected there, since the '84 schematics I have don't show anything else.

I had the same problem with my 83. First its wired up like a 84 been a headache from day one, but on to your problem. On some of the non V8 models they had a plug similar to what you are describing that went to the power steering system. There was a pressure unit in the power steering line that kept the ac compressor from coming on when power steering pump had the engine under load. I guess there was some problem with the small v6 and 4cyls stalling trying to run the Ac comp and power steering at slow speeds. I had this connector on my car, upon swapping in a v8 I just cut that pigtail off and connected the wires together. I think that its weird that the Z would have that connector. Hope this helps
