When i hooked mine up, one of the grounds go to the courtesy light in the hatch area. Try that out.

Re: hatch release harness 3 grounds or not?

Black wire with a black plug on the end? Sounds like the hatch solenoid power wire. Don't ask me why, but the wire powering the hatch release solenoid is BLACK. Oh, don't forget that you'll need to run a ground wire from the 10mm screw attaching the solenoid to the latch assy down to the ground location on the body below the pull-down assembly. The solenoid is electrically isolated from ground by the guides in the track, so that ground wire is required.
