2.8l to 350 wiring
hey i'm going to tackel the swap of my 2.8l to a 350 i'm trying to figer out what wires i need to keep from the 2.8l harness and what will work with the v8. the v6 is carbed and the v8 i wont to use is going to be a 350 out of aa 94 gmc truck with vortec heads and a edelbrock air gap intake that will work on the vortec heads and an edelbrock 650 carb. some questions are will the starter wires work off the v6 harness and how many wire should go to the distribtor and where do they go and will the alternator wire work off the v6 harness as well. all gauges are mechanical so they shouldn't be a problem. and i don't wont any emission stuff on there so it will all be going.
thanks jason

Re: 2.8l to 350 wiring
I'm pretty sure this topic has been pretty well covered here at thirdgen in the past. For starters check out the FAQ and then do a lot of searching. I have one tip I'd like to offer you which is to save your wiring harness. Don't cut anything unless you are 100% sure what it is and that you won't need it. I took a large portion of the wiring harness and stuffed it into the passenger side fender right behind the front wheel. Numerous times I have gone back to this harness for wires I didn't originally use, but found later I wanted them (torque converter lockup wiring for example). To answer your questions, Yes you can use the same wiring for the starter and alternator. If you use an HEI distributor like I did the wiring for that will be ultra simple: 1 wire that is hot when the key is on or in cranking position to the batt terminal of the distributor. Good luck!
