My Buddy has a 1988 GTA with a digital dash. The problem is we have dash lights every where but the dash cluster. If I use the dimmer for the dash all working lamps dim like they are supposed to.(gear select,heater controls,switches by the info center,etc). I thought this would be an issue inside the cluster but after checking the bulbs (all good) I traced the printed circuit and it held continuity. At this point I applied power to number 14 pin a ground to numbers 26-28 and yahoo the lamps all worked. What would cause my problems if the fuses are ok, the dash cluster is ok and the headlamp/dimmer rheostat are ok? I could really use a wiring diagram for the 1988 Pontiac GTA showing the dash pin outs and where they go. I tried the dealership and they don't have anything that old. No books or computer info that shows this info.

I am trying to get the pin outs for the cluster connectors for the instrument center so I can trace them to the fuse block or where ever they go. I can get the dash to light on the bench but not in the car. If I have the dash cluster out the rest of the dash lights wont work so I dont know what wires to test. Any help please.

 

I would like to make the digital dash bright when I turn on my headlights instead of dimming on my 88 GTA.
Anyone done this ?
