Stupid kill switch...

Hi all,

So yeah two weeks ago I bought a 1985 Z28 Iroc 5speed Manual...
Great Ride love it to death... however, it had a custom kill switch for the ignition so if you didn't know where it was you couldn't start the car unless you push started it... well, that switch shorted out... and now I can't start it.... It's tail lights and blinkers are gone and the wiring for the switch is toast... now i just need an Idea as to how much (and what all) damage this could have caused... It's such a nice ride... i hope it's alright...

now... I pulled of the plastic shield by the drivers side seat and the wire is literally burnt all to crap... pulled out the cheap wire they used to make the switch with and connected the 14 gauge wires under the dash.... nothing... I'm worries as this is my only means of transportation and I really love this car... insight, diagnosis and/or advice on what to look for are all very welcome... when it's light out tomorrow I'll walk back to the car and check my fuses... hopefully the the seller was mart enough to put the damn switch behind a fuse... if not *shudder* I have a feeling this could get really expensive... I have a Chilton's guide to repairing my car... but it's not exactly the best. I really can't afford to pay someone to check this out right now so if it's possible to fix this on my own I need too...

Thanks in advance for any help...

Cheers,
Danny

Re: Stupid kill switch...

Hacked wiring is basically impossible to diagnose online since every car is different.

Did the taillights stop working when the starter went or have they always been broken.

The wiring for the ignition is very simple so it should be easy to fix. Do you have power inside the car? Do you know how to use a multimeter?

Re: Stupid kill switch...

i do know how to use a multimeter however i do not have one at present... I lost the taillights after the short occurred... and my blinkers... Man, whoever wired this thing should get kicked in the head.... when I opened it up the switch was punched through the wire leaving excess wire going past the switch... grrr... well, I'm going to go take a look at this in the light... ty for your help...
