Mini starter too big?!?!?!

Umm yea I got a set of hooker headers for my small block 400 and wouldnt you know the clearance for the starter sucks, which I knew was going to happen anywho to make a long story short I ordered a mini starter from summit (the 400 has a off set bolt pattern so of course it was like 40 bucks more for the offset starter...dont know why but thats not the problem) anywho I ordered the summit brand starter (part # SUM-820323-OS ) tried to install the damn thing at every possible clock the starter would let me and it doesnt fit! its too big, eather that or im stupid which is a possibility but i spent over 4 hours trying to fit the thing so im almost positive its not me. So any insight would be great because Im really close to pushing the car over a cliff or something I would drive it off but I cant get the starter in..... yea anywho any help please?
