Why must people hack the dash wiring . . .

So I've been under my dash to remove the pedal assembly to do a T5 swap. While under there I notched all sorts of aftermarket crimp connectors and tons of extra wiring. Thing is I have no idea why the hell anyone would do what's been done. The main yellow wire that runs to the ignition switch has been cut in half with a relay wired in between it. That same relay is also wired into two connectors that don't appear to be GM related as they are clear plastic. The "button" that tells the car it's door is shut is wired into a separate relay. That realy is also going into one of the clear connectors via a single wire. I haven't traced where all of its other wires are going yet.

Was this a crude alarm installation where parts have been removed?

Re: Why must people hack the dash wiring . . .

Well I got all the wiring untangled and seperated. In the end, the only thing actualy "wired to work" was the relay on the main yellow wire for the ignition switch. Even then, it had a wire coming off of it that wasn't wired to anything. The relay and the wires coming out of it all look like a factory setup though.

The relay over by the door jamb switch is supposed to be there from the factory. The previous owner apparently had to splice into the wiring there for whatever reason. I've no idea what the clear conector wired into it goes to though. Nor do I care. All the excess wires and connectors went directly to the trash.

Now I have nice neat wiring under my dash again. Sort of. All the slpices are still on the relay near the door jamb switch. It's all tucked up out of the way though and it will likely stay that way. The wires are short and the area is to tight to get into to reconnect the factory wires together.
