heat/air fan short...

Is there a ground wire connected to the heater fan. As of two days ago everytime I hit a bump the fan cuts off or on. It must be a ground somewhere.

There's a ground lug under one of the bolts that hold the fan on the heater box,but i would suspect you need a new fan.You can get one at a parts store but it may be better to get one used or from the dealer because of fitment issues with an aftermarket. You have to swap the cage over and the shaft hole may be different.

sounds like to be you better look for a loose wire. if the fan turns on then it is most likely not the issue. clean your ground wires and look for wires with broken shielding on the that could be shorting out your fan as well.

Run a temporary ground wire and drive around. If fan stays running you found your problem. If it doesn't, check your positive wiring for a loose connection. If neither one works, you probably need a new fan motor - Afterall it's over 20yrs old.

The fan is under the hood on the passenger side on the firewall. It's mounted on the heater box.A big plastic box on the firewall. The fan is a shiny black round thing held in by about seven bolts. It has a hot wire a ground and a rubber cooling tube. You'll need to disconnect it,take the bolts out,and pry it off the heater box. Then you'll need to transfer the cage over to the new motor. Then reinstall the assembly,I use a little rtv on the flange to seal the fan to the box.
