Car wont start VATS?

I have an 89 camaro with the VATS system in it. Car wont start. The gauges work when I turn the key. Checked the fuses, everythings fine. I don't think its the computer because the fuel pump buzzes when the key is turned. I tried maneully starting it and it turns over but wont ignight. I replaced the lock cylinder and VATS (black box) last year.

Im hoping its not VATS acting up again. Does anyone know of anything else I should check? if it is VATS does anyone know how to bypass it?

Re: Car wont start VATS?

My 89 camaro vats failed yesterday. I didnt hear any fuel pump buzz. Only amps came up. The starter didnt turn either. A few weeks ago I had to change the key cylinder, to keep the vats I cut the wire from the new key cylinder and taped it to the wires coming from the box. It worked for 3 days then stopped dead. I opened the steering again and retaped the wires and it worked. But now each time I turn the key I am afraid it's not gonna work. The new plan now is to buy a resistor with exactly at my vats value and loop it at steering wheel side. I posted a thread here asking where to find the resistor with exactly 2.37 ohms resistance. If I find it I will just get rid of vats for good.

well first you should actually sodder the wires together. which is probably your problem to begin with. but I would take your key to a radioshack of some kind to have them measure the ohms and find a resistor that works for you. thats what I did. make sure to sodder them together
