83 Camaro wiring harness
Hi,
Great site here, I am looking for some under hood pictures of wiring harnesses close ups with labeling would be great. I have the books and the links to all the diagrams but its not helping with the dirty, discolored cut up harness. Specificly the distributor, coolant temp sensor areas. The car origanly had the 305 and i picked it up with a worn out 350. It now has a 383 and a T5.
Thank you

I have the correct tach wire hooked up now, the tach is still peged out at 70000 all the way over. I have replaced all the blown fuses. The temp sensor also does not work, i found what i think was the right wire green with a hook up for 1 clip temp sensor is this right, the car was originaly a 305.

Wow thanks for all the help i have been getting.
I have now pulled out the instrument cluster and replaced a few blown bulbs, This did not fix my Tac or temp sensor problems. I know the tac is getting power now because the nedle moved down a little while i was replacing bulbs and went right back up to peged out when i hooked it back up. Come on someone must have fixed this before, there is a ton of post on it but everyone replaces the cluster or buys an aftermarket tac.

Re: 83 Camaro wiring harness
Hey,
I installed a 350 in my 83 which was orginial v6 car. I don't know what to tell you about the tach. To test out your temp gauge just touch the end of the green wire to ground and watch your guage, the needle should jump. If it moves I say the gauge is ok and the sending unit is bad. You might want to make sure that you have the proper sending unit installed, I don't know if GM changed the resistance values for a given temp. Hope my rambling helps.

Re: 83 Camaro wiring harness
did the tach work with the other engines installed? if it never worked more then likley it is just busted, these GM tachs go out alot. hit the junkyards.

Re: 83 Camaro wiring harness
Hi,
Thankyou for all the help. I pulled the engine bay harness and removed all unnecessary wires. My next step is going to be purchasing a Tac, spedo, oil pressure, and temp gagues all mechanical and fabricating a new cluster out of stainless or aluminum. That should rid me of most of my gremlins. I dont know how to close this post but i dont need anymore help with this one.
