Cig lighter replacement (I HAVE searched)
Hi all,
I have what would seem to be an easy question. I need the cigarette lighter to power my ALDL cable but every time I hook it up, it pops the fuse.
I removed the dash plate & checked the wires, and I have power and ground, so it must be the lighter itself. From the searching I have done, it seems like the two pieces of the lighter can separate, with one staying in the dash plate and the back side getting replaced. I tried w/ a pair of pliers and visegrips and it wasn't coming off, and I feared breaking it. Am I retarded or am I missing something?
Thanks
Jeff

damn, same thing happens to me.. whenever I connect something there or hit the cig. lighter by accident. it pops the ACC fuse that controls the dome light and the horn and the 12v 'connection'. never really went into that but im pretty sure its a short : /

Well, its worth a shot to take a look. Also I want to correct myself as its not a left hand thread. Instead, the front piece that you can see needs to be held and the entire back piece needs to be spun CCW. I was trying to spin the end CCW while holding the bottom on the back, which is all one piece!!!
It should only take you about 30-45 mins. You pull off the front of the dash, check the wires and make sure you have power and ground. If you do, get a new replacement universal lighter well at the parts store, cut off the stock connector, add a couple of spade connectors, and you're done!
