Temp Gauge/Melted Wire
Temp Gauge/Melted Wire
Hello everyone, i just purchased a 85Z 305 TBI this week. Im having problems diagnosing my temp gauge. Right now, the gauge stays pegged at all times. Even when the car isnt started. I have read through the forums and decided the disconnect/ground procedure, to check the gauge, and it didnt change at all, either way.
. I did notice that the connector that clips on the sending unit is a little melted by the metal "clip" area. I just really need some advice on what to try to tackle first. Is it more than likely the sending unit, wire, or the actual guage. I appreciate any feedback, and if i need to replace the wire, where/how is the best way to do it, Thanks in advance for any help

Re: Temp Gauge/Melted Wire
If you disconnected for the sending unit and no change..its not the sending unit. what it sounds like is the wire is pinched and shorted to ground. Trace the wire back the the firewall. It enters through the firewall by the Brake booster. If you dont find any problems with the wire the guage may be bad..
