solenoid security

I remember seeing a few years ago, a unit that took the place of a stock chevy solenoid,( on starter) and it functioned as a solenoid, but also as a security device and had a remote control. This effectively meant no starting car with starter motor even if its "hot wired" and Vat is bypassed. If anyone has seen one or has one I would love to get more info, Thanks, Bruce

Re: solenoid security

If someone bypasses VATS I'm sure they can figure out how to jump the two terminals of the solenoid to send power to the starter.

Vats is easy to bypass, however I saw a solenoid that you can jump terminals on all day that wouldnt do a thing without clicking a remote control.

Re: solenoid security

I don't know of anything that takes the place of the stock solenoid, anything added will have to use to original starter solenoid. I have seen a few people put a manual toggle switch between the relay and the S terminal on the starter solenoid and mount the switch under the drivers seat. Turn it off and disable the starter from the switch, but if the starter is jumped directly bye bye car.

The terminals on a starter being 12V+ and the positive end of the starter- jumping them will always engage the starter. "Jumping" them bypasses the remote control's function.

Re: solenoid security

Of course it does!!, BUT, on the inside of these the solenoid contacts are run by remote control, so NO the starter will NOT engage.REMOTE is IN the Solenoid. I have seen these a few years ago and just cant remember what brand etc. Its a very slick Idea, has special bolt heads for the starter and the solenoid. Gone is 60 seconds is a thing of the past with one of these, well for us automatic folks anyway!
PS. the units I saw advertised actually took the place of the solenoid and were about the same size. Again, special head bolts.
