Headlights pop up on parking light switch

I know on my friends Trans Am when he switches his parking lamps on his headlights don't flip up. But on my 91 Firebird they flip up and i don't like it. So here's the Q: On the 90's and up do they come up when i switch the parking lamps only or do i have a problem?

Re: Headlights pop up on parking light switch

i'd say either the wiring is screwed up or you need a new headlight switch.

Re: Headlights pop up on parking light switch

If your headlights don't light up when they flip up, the culprit is in the headlight door module.

You can quickly make sure that the yellow wire on the module doesn't have 12V on it with the park lamps on. Only the brown wire should have 12V at that point.

Hope this helps.

I can tell you that more than one of my customers has repaired their headlight actuator assemblies using the headlight repair kits I manufacture and let me know that is also solved the problem you describe.

Re: Headlights pop up on parking light switch

Just a basic answer to your question, you should be able to run your fog lamps/parking lights independently of your headlights. All of the previous replies are good advice. I would tend to side with the switch itself on that, followed by the wiring next. The switch is less than $15, so isn't a bad experiment if you're not sure. If you haven't messed with your wiring at all, than it is really most likely the switch. Good luck.

Re: Headlights pop up on parking light switch

Just a heads up: if you turn on the parking lights and the head light pop up but do NOT light up, then it is not the headlight switch. If the headlights DO light up with the parking lights, though, then yes, it would be a very good indication of a bad headlight switch.

Hope this helps.
