Ignition Switch Wiring?

I just put a 305 TPI motor from an '86 Trans Am into my '85 pickup and I haven't been able to find a diagram or explanation on how to hook up the ignition switch to the T/A wiring harness/motor. Can anyone tell me where the run and start wires from the ignition switch go, and anything else I may need to hook up for the ignition? The ECM # is 1227165

Thanks.

Re: Ignition Switch Wiring?

I not Positive..but if you look at the fuse box... the ignition switch power goes to a plug labeled IGN, IGNITION or IGN POWER. This plug supplies ignition switch power to what needs ignition power with the ignition on!

Re: Ignition Switch Wiring?

Thanks for the info, I did check out the fuse box and see the IGN and ECM fuses. I actually end up using the old truck wiring to crank the engine and just ran switched power to the T/A fuse box. I had another problem though: all the orange wires in the T/A harness that are supposed to be a hot at all times were not all getting power. I found that the two orange wires going to the ECM were not powered, niether was the switched power going to the ECM. I was able to supply the correct power to these wires with the help of a wiring diagram ....

I do have another problem now, the plugs are sparking and the fuel pump is being turned on by the ECM, but it won't fire yet. I'm not sure if I have the fuel injector plugs in the right place, for example, I may have the #2 and #4 plugs switched, or #1 and #3, etc. Is there any way to determine which injector wire goes to which injector?

Thanks.

The TPI fuel injection unit is a batch fire unit meaning that all injectors fire at the same time. Therefore, it doesn't matter which wire is connected to which fuel injector. It's not like plug wires, there's no right and no wrong way to connect them.
