New alternator in older trans am help please

Forgive me if this was already discussed but i've been searching the threads for 2 days and haven't found the answer. I have an 86 trans am that originally had the alternator on the passenger side with a wire on the back screwed on and a connector with 2 wires coming out of it on the top. I now just converted to a new serpentine setup out of an 89 formula 350 and the alternator not only is on the driver side but it has a connector on the top with approx 6 pins inside it. What do i need to do to get the new alternator to work with my existing wiring other than the obvious running power to the driver side.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Rich

Re: New alternator in older trans am help please

you need a connector to plug into the new alternator, avail at local parts store or summit/jegs , the thick wire from the new connector will go to the batt stud in back of the alt the thin wire will connect to the thin wire that used to go to the 2 pin connector of the old alt and your done......

Yea, I got the new connector and there's 3 wires coming off of it, a thick red one, a brown wire and a black wire (both thinner than the red). Which one goes to the back of the alternator and which one goes to the connector?

Thanks

Re: New alternator in older trans am help please

the brown should go to the voltage gauge

but on my 90 harness the only thing on the back of the alternator is is a wire going to the battery.

the red wire in the plug dissapears somewhere in the harness

my 90 doesn't have a black wire
