Speedo Problem

Hey guys.... not sure if this is the right section for this, but here goes: recently got an '86 IROC. It has a 350 tpi and a t5 (I know it's not an original combo) and 3.23 gear in the rear ( I know because I did the spin the tires and count how many times the drive shaft spins). My problem is that my speedo is consistently 5-10 mph faster than my road speed. Could that T5 have come from a car with 3.42 gears? What can I do to rememdy this situation?

Yes. Check to see what driven gear you have in the tranny. IIRC, 3.23's require a brown 18-tooth gear (the 3.42's, a 19-tooth white) .

Do I just unscrew the cable from the trans and pull it out or is there a clip holding it? How hard is that gear to replace?

Yes, unscrew the cable from the tranny. The driven gear and its sleeve are held in place by a small bolt and plate. You should be able to wiggle the gear free. Following is a link that will provide more info and some pics:
