Help! Wont start! Why?
Hi i really need some help i prevoiusly had my hood off and the engine got wet...well it still started just needed to hold the key more for it to turn over. but now my hoods back on and i left it parked at my house when i went camping for the weekend and my friend left the radar detector on so when i got home the car would not start it had no power so i used my generator to start it but it wasnt strong enough so i got my cousins suv and try to jump it and the gauge reads good for the battery but it wont even turn over it just clicks...
so i need to know what it could be?
how could i test for it?
thank you in advance

Re: Help! Wont start! Why?
How long did you keep your friends battery connected to yours? If the radar detector was left on an entire weekend while you were gone then your battery is deeply discharged. When you connect your friends battery to yours it will read good voltage on the gauge because it's reading from your friends battery through the jumper cables. However, the amps that the starter needs to crank the engine over cannot be pulled through jumper cables as easily and therefore you need to wait until the battery is charged enough off his battery to give the starter the cranking amps that it needs.
What you "should" do is take the battery out and charge it off a battery charger or better yet if you don't have a battery charger take it to a parts store and tell them you need it checked to see if it's bad. Their tester won't be able to test the battery unless it has charge so the tester will automatically charge the battery up in order to test it. The reason I say you should go this method is because if the battery is that deeply discharged, even if you do get it started it's not good on the alternator.
What you "could" do is hook your friends vehicle back up to your battery and leave his vehicle running a good 10-15 minutes and rev his engine a bit above idle every once in awhile and hold it for 30 seconds or so. Don't attempt to start the vehicle during this 10-15 minutes. After 10-15 minutes give it a try and see if it'll start. On a deeply discharged battery you should be able to get it to crank and fire after 10-15 minutes connected to another battery.
